Family in search for missing child
Boy, 7, vanished on Friday evening
The distraught parents of a young boy who vanished from outside his home have appealed to the public for help in finding him.
Seven-year-old Obaida Ibrahim Al Aqrabawi has not been seen since 7.30pm on Friday and his parents are frantically trying to locate him.
He was last seen playing outside his father’s car business, close to the family home, in Sharjah’s Industrial Area 8.
Obaida’s family, from Jordan, posted a picture of him on Facebook and said: “Our child disappeared in Industrial Area 8 at 7.30pm.
“He was playing next his father’s garage, which is under our building. Our child’s name is Obaida and he is seven years old. “We have found no trace of our child, we have contacted all hospitals and police stations.”
A senior Sharjah Police officer confirmed the search is ongoing.
Obaida’s father, Ibrahim Al Aqrabawi, 43, told 7DAYS that he and his wife “drove around for hours” on Friday night looking for their son.
He said they started panicking after realising he was missing.
Al Aqrabawi said: “I went back home on Friday night at 9pm as usual. I asked my wife about Obaida and she said he was playing in front of the garage.”
They checked outside their home, to find he was nowhere to be seen and began searching the area.
Al Aqrabawi added: “We went to look for him everywhere. We were extremely stressed and anxious.
“We looked around the neighbourhood for hours and hours in the car… we checked every hospital in Sharjah.”
The father, who has two other children, said Obaida knows the area well.
Al Aqrabawi said that because of his son’s sense of direction and knowledge of the area, he does not believe Obaida would have wandered off and become lost. He said: “Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare. He has been missing for the past two days. I worry about my child being kidnapped. “Whenever Obaida is sitting next to me in the car, he pays attention to the way and directs me to our house. “I am aware of the fact that he plays in front of the garage and that’s way I used to make sure he knows how to get back home. “My wife is in a state of shock since my son has gone missing. She has woken for the past two days and gone to get Obaida up [forgetting he is missing]. “Obaida is in grade two at Ajyal Al Mostaqbal School. He is a very smart kid. I doubt that he lost his way.” Sharjah Police are working with Dubai Police to search the area. On the 7DAYS Facebook page, many readers said their thoughts were with the family. Anne-Marie Caine said: “I pray to God he is found soon poor thing...just hope he is ok.”
