Swimming comes out top in sporting survey
Swimming is the favourite sport of Emirati girls, a new report has found. The Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy has conducted a study to explore the sports preferences of young Emirati women. The study, covering a sample of 395 female public school students aged 10-12 years, showed that the vast majority (84 per cent) prefered team sports, such as football, basketball and volleyball, to individual sports. However, the most popular sport overall was swimming, with 40 per cent of respondents saying it was their favourite. Second was football (38 per cent). The study also found a connection between parents’ exercising habits and children’s inclination to pursue sports outside school, and examined children’s motivation for exercising. The study was conducted during the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) PasSport programme by the FBMA. The programme took place at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi from April 24 - May 4 with the participation of more than 1,800 girls aged between 10 and 12 years.
