Trucker protest hits at the pump

7 Days in Dubai - - GLOBAL NEWS -

Long queues were forming at gas stations in north-western France yesterday as a strike disrupted the country’s fuel supplies. Alain Vidalies, the junior minister for Transportation, said “less than 20 per cent” of the country’s gas stations were partially or totally closed yesterday, mostly in Brittany, Normandy and northern France. In comments to radio station RTL, Vidalies ensured that “there’s no risk of shortage next week”. Some fuel depots and refineries have been blocked for several days by truckers protesting against a labour law. The reform has prompted a series of strikes and protests across the country in recent weeks. The government announced on Saturday the law would not apply to the truckers’ specific status allowing them to get better paid extra hours.
