Les Mis coming to Dubai Opera

Whether you know it from reading the book, seeing it on Broadway, performing it in school, or watching the 2012 Oscarwinning movie, Les Miserables is an iconic musical production.

Based on Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel, the tale of Jean Valjean, Fantine, Javert, and Cosette, Les Mis is coming to Dubai Opera from November 10-24.

The world’s longest running musical has been performed in 44 countries to more than 70 million people. Producer, Sir Cameron Mackintosh said: “The production will be sung in English by a sensational international cast, led by my current Broadway stars John Owen-Jones as Jean Valjean and Hayden Tee as Javert.” The November run in Dubai will be a first for the GCC and Mackintosh added that it’s a prime time to bring the production to the UAE, now that there is a suitable venue.

He said: “For many years I have lamented that my major musical successes have not been able to play in the Middle East because there was no auditorium with the right scale and facilities able to house my spectacular productions.

“Though the original production is still running to sold-out houses in London after 30 years, this new production which I created for the show’s 25th anniversary is even more spectacular with its settings inspired by Victor Hugo’s own paintings.”
