Renewable energy jobs boost for UAE
The UAE will create more than 90,00 jobs in the renewable energy sector by 2030. That’s providing the target of 30 per cent of energy from clean sources is reached. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the current growth in local manufacturing and project development will create 91,000 jobs. “We have seen promising strides in terms of project development and they are localising a lot of the work they do,” said Rabia Ferroukhi, Senior Programme Officer - Policy Advice and Deputy Director, Knowledge, Policy and Finance Centre, IRENA. “The local financial sector is slowly becoming comfortable with renewable energy and manufacturing is picking up with UAE currently being home to two commercial Photovoltaic (PV) Solar manufacturers. The Solar PV industry is expected to create the majority of these jobs, according to IRENA’s Director General, Adnan Amin. “With records consistently being set especially in the Solar Power plants in Dubai, the scale of deployment is going to lead to major employment gains,” he said.
