7 Days in Dubai - - FRONT PAGE -

Enviable abs, tight triceps and svelte silhouettes – Yasmine Karachiwala knows how to achieve the best of Bollywood physiques. She is a trainer to the stars - including big names Katrina Kaif (below), Sophia Goudry, and Deepika Padukone. The star-trainer is in Dubai, launching A-Tone - a new gym aimed at helping women get fit, fast and strong. Karachiwala trained Katrina Kaif for the movie Agneepath, which she says was one of the toughest gigs of her career. “My biggest challenge was when Katrina Kaif was doing the song ‘Chikni Chameli’. If you’ve seen that song, she really moves - and she’s wearing a small choli with a very low ghagra (embroidered skirt) and her whole midriff is showing. And she said to me “if anything jiggles, you’re dead”. And so we worked. “The thing is, she was ready to put the effort in. She puts in the effort, I put in the effort - there are times where I’d work until midnight with her. It has to be a combined effort,” explained Yasmine (right). “It was a very regimented lifestyle - we had to cut out sugar, we had to cut out dairy, we cut out carbs toward the end of the shoot two days prior. “We worked out two hours per day, we did a lot of cardiovascular with pilates and functional training. Every day was different. Plus when I train my clients that hard, I have to give their body time to recover before the next training session. “It’s not just about training, it’s added with active rest because otherwise, with actors it shows on their face. It’s all caught on-screen so everything has to balance - the nourishment of the body, skin, everything.” A-Tone has three different studios, pilates, yoga and ‘cross-cuit’, which is described as a style of more careful CrossFit aimed at reducing proneness to injuries. For those seeking a Bollywood physique at A-Tone, Yasmine warns it’s not just about getting to gym a few times per week. “Nutrition is 70 per cent of the journey to being fit and exercise is 30 per cent. I tell my clients, who come in three times a week for an hour, if you calculate the hours in a week - which is 166 and you’re only giving three hours a week, how are you being accountable in the other 163 hours? It’s a whole package deal.”
