Police responder bikes get tooled up
Abu Dhabi Police have modified the motorbikes used by their first responders. The bikes are now equipped with manual and rechargeable electric tools and equipment to rescue victims trapped inside vehicles after serious accidents. Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said it was vital that emergency teams and rescue operations had the best equipment available so they can save lives at the scene of accidents. Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim Al Ameri, Head of the Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police, added the equipment was designed by the department’s creativity and innovation team. Their brief was to come up with tools that would help first responders, who are often the initial emergency personnel at the scene, to overcome some of the typical challenges that they face in the field, such as cutting vehicles open to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage. He added that time was crucial in such situations as the victim’s condition could worsen or they could suffer further injuries if left inside the vehicle.
