Row spills over in public
A dispute between two women got so heated that a judge had to intervene as they hurled abuse at each other in court.
The women are on trial after a fight broke out over the use of elevators.
Sharjah Misdemeanour Court was told that a Jordanian woman, in her 40s, allegedly insulted an Emirati, in her 20s. The argument allegedly started when the Emirati woman and her family were using four elevators, leaving no functioning elevator free for anyone else.
However, the quarrel escalated when the Jordanian By Nawal Al Ramahi woman became angry and punched the Emirati woman in the face.
The Emirati woman told the judge that the Jordanian cursed at her, called her names and assaulted her.
When the Emirati woman threatened to tell police about the incident, the Jordanian woman told her that she didn’t care because she is married to an Emirati.
In court, the Jordanian woman denied the charges of insulting, cursing and physically abusing the Emirati, claiming that the Emirati fabricated most of the story.
The two women insulted each other during the trial and the judge ordered them to be silent.
The Jordan woman testified: “I as an educated woman never used such kind of words. I was waiting for more than half an hour for an elevator.
“Then, I found out that the Emirati woman and other members of the family have taken four elevators.”
The trial was adjourned until a later date.
