‘Deport me or I will blow up building’
A man dialled 999 and threatened to blow up his building unless the police deported him, Dubai Court of First Instance heard. The 25-year old jobless Kenyan man, who was drunk at the time, has been charged with making threats, consuming alcohol without a licence and overstaying his visa. Prosecutors said that, on April 17 this year, the defendant called the emergency number about 5pm from his mobile phone. He told the control room operator that he would carry out his threat in Naif. “He said that he will blow up the building if we didn’t deport him to his home country and then hung up the phone,” the 28-year-old Emirati policeman who answered the call said in court records. Dubai Police traced the number to the defendant, who was living in the UAE illegally after being terminated from his job as a security guard at a private company. The defendant was later arrested and the police said that when interviewed he confessed to making the call. The Kenyan also pleaded guilty to all the charges when he appeared in court. He will be sentenced next month.
