UAE shares expertise on halal food
The UAE is working with South Korea to ensure more of its cuisine is halal. The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA) discussed applying the same regulations used in the UAE with a delegation from the Korean Embassy, national news agency WAM reported. The move is part of the authority’s plan to encourage more international partners to apply UAE regulations on halal products. It says the regulations are the first of their kind in the world. Abdulla Al Mae eni, Director-General of ESMA, said that the authority will provide expertise in the area for Korea, which seeks to double the size of its exports of halal products from about $680 million (Dhs2.5 billion) annually to $1.23 billion (Dhs4.5 billion) in 2017.
