Sheep seized in il­le­gal mar­ket

Hun­dreds of sheep were among the goods seized from il­le­gal street ven­dors in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Depart­ment of Eco­nomic De­vel­op­ment (DED) yes­ter­day said they seized more than 200,000 fake items in 247 in­spec­tion raids on out­lets and com­mer­cial es­tab­lish­ments in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the West­ern Re­gion in the first quar­ter of 2016. Among the seized prod­ucts in­cluded 2,126 elec­tronic de­vices, clothes and ac­ces­sories, beauty prod­ucts in ad­di­tion to 234 sheep from street ven­dors. Au­thor­i­ties also con­fis­cated 27.5 tonnes of veg­eta­bles and fruits and three tonnes of clothes and house­hold items from il­le­gal street ven­dors. DED’s Abu Dhabi Busi­ness Cen­tre (ADBC) also is­sued 1,555 fines to the er­rant traders for flout­ing the laws. Seven stores were closed for non-com­pli­ance with the emi­rate’s busi­ness prac­tice laws. There were also 945 com­plaints from con­sumers and trade­mark own­ers.
