Sheep seized in illegal market
Hundreds of sheep were among the goods seized from illegal street vendors in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED) yesterday said they seized more than 200,000 fake items in 247 inspection raids on outlets and commercial establishments in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region in the first quarter of 2016. Among the seized products included 2,126 electronic devices, clothes and accessories, beauty products in addition to 234 sheep from street vendors. Authorities also confiscated 27.5 tonnes of vegetables and fruits and three tonnes of clothes and household items from illegal street vendors. DED’s Abu Dhabi Business Centre (ADBC) also issued 1,555 fines to the errant traders for flouting the laws. Seven stores were closed for non-compliance with the emirate’s business practice laws. There were also 945 complaints from consumers and trademark owners.
