Lalit, an engineer who is passionate about trains, met his now wife Shweta Chanchali, 30, on a train to the north Indian city of Haridwar in 2006.

“Our seats were opposite each other and I wanted to speak with her but she was with her family,” said Lalit. “So I started making conversation with her uncle, who was sitting beside me first and slowly started speaking with her too.

“The train journey was 48 hours long and thankfully it was running slowly, which gave us a full two days to make conversation and get to know each other.”

He added: “We spoke about our future plans, our beliefs, likes, dislikes and figured we gelled very well together. When we got off that train, we were not strangers anymore.”

The pair, who live in Abu Dhabi, exchanged numbers and kept in touch.

“We became good friends, would talk for hours through the nights, and finally after three years of courting, in 2009 I finally popped the question,” said Lalit. “And she said yes! “We have travelled across India a lot

after we got married and make sure we do as many train journeys as possible, it feels very special, like it is our thing.

“Neither of us would have ever imagined that a 48-hour train ride would lead us to finding our life partners.”
