Mum and kids die in house fire
Police investigating cause of blaze at shared accommodation
A mother and her two daughters died in a fire at their shared house in the Al Ghafya area of Sharjah yesterday morning.
The woman, from Comoros Island, burned to death, police said, while the two girls, aged 12 and 13, suffocated.
The fire started about 11.30am, said a Sharjah Police official.
It is believed that two families lived in the villa.
Firefighters were able to rescue the other residents from the burning building, said Lieutenant Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, the Director General of Civil Defence in Sharjah.
The emergency services reached the scene in three minutes after the operation room received a call about the blaze, Al Naqbi added.
Colonel Ali Salem Al Khayal, Director General of Sharjah Police Central Operations, and Al Naqbi both attended the scene of the incident and oversaw the operation. The bodies of the two girls were taken to Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, while the body of their mother was moved to Al Kuwaiti Hospital. Police said that the investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing.
