We need help to cope with number of abandoned dogs

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7DAYS -

With the onset of summer we are watching a drama unfolding. Irresponsible residents dump their pets in the hundreds. This week on ONE day alone we counted 58!!! Dogs (evidenced, with pictures, breed, location etc.) that were abandoned, dumped, neglected or found as stray. This is an amount that no one can cope with anymore. Several volunteer groups are trying their best to help, but they are running out of funds, shelter and foster homes. We, the rescue groups, are desperate, and we URGENTLY need help. Help from other animal lovers, help from the media, and help from government. I appeal to everybody who would like to help to get more information and contacts on the open community group ‘dogs in dubai’ on facebook. Jumie Dubai On various sites a job posting will be shown as having 300-400 applications even though the job was posted within the hour. I think “how on earth have all these applicants done their research and written a cover letter demonstrating their fit with the role, in a few minutes?”. Most of them haven’t, and they have just pinged off their CV letting the recruiter go through the unenviable task of distilling their work history. On the flip side, yes I have wasted dozens of hours applying for ghostpositions. I am 52 years old with a pretty solid resume having 15-20 years experience in senior management positions of large corporates. I have been looking for five months, applied for what seems like a trillion jobs (and yes I too go through the effort of ensuring I encapsulate my skills and experience into my cover letter, do the research on the company etc), I have been for one interview for which I was told I was a great fit….. but didn’t land the job. I am now thinking ‘is this it?”. If this is such an ageist society I now have to consider leaving my husband and teenage daughter here and returning to my home country alone so I can at least re-establish a career. I fear the longer I remain out of work the more difficult it is going to be. The irony is It IS our wealth of experience that is most valuable. Technical skills can be acquired. 50-ish and fabulous Dubai
