UAE duo on new Forbes power list
Two Emiratis have ranked among the world’s most powerful women. The Minister of Tolerance Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi ranked 43rd in the Forbes World’s Most Powerful Women in 2016 list for her political and charitable achievements. Also featured on the list was Raja Easa Al Gurg, Managing Director of UAE conglomerate Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group, who was placed 93rd for her support and encouragement of Arab women entrepreneurs, Forbes said. Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi was noted by the financial news magazine as instrumental to the UAE’s charitable endeavours. “Formerly the Minister of International Cooperation and Development, Qasimi helped to lead the United Arab Emirates into a period of unprecedented philanthropy.” It said the country contributed $5.4 billion to foreign nations in 2013, up from $1.6 billion donated in 2012. In September 2003, both Al Gurg, and Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, led a delegation of Dubai businesswomen to the US - Arab Economic Forum in Washington DC.
