UAE duo on new Forbes power list

Two Emi­ratis have ranked among the world’s most pow­er­ful women. The Min­is­ter of Tol­er­ance Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi ranked 43rd in the Forbes World’s Most Pow­er­ful Women in 2016 list for her po­lit­i­cal and char­i­ta­ble achieve­ments. Also fea­tured on the list was Raja Easa Al Gurg, Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor of UAE con­glom­er­ate Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group, who was placed 93rd for her sup­port and en­cour­age­ment of Arab women en­trepreneurs, Forbes said. Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi was noted by the fi­nan­cial news mag­a­zine as in­stru­men­tal to the UAE’s char­i­ta­ble en­deav­ours. “For­merly the Min­is­ter of In­ter­na­tional Co­op­er­a­tion and De­vel­op­ment, Qasimi helped to lead the United Arab Emi­rates into a pe­riod of un­prece­dented phi­lan­thropy.” It said the coun­try contributed $5.4 bil­lion to for­eign na­tions in 2013, up from $1.6 bil­lion do­nated in 2012. In Septem­ber 2003, both Al Gurg, and Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, led a del­e­ga­tion of Dubai busi­ness­women to the US - Arab Eco­nomic Fo­rum in Wash­ing­ton DC.
