A total of 81 drivers had their vehicles taken off them for not having licence plates, taking part in illegal races and driving at speeds of up to 300kph. The racers were clocked tearing down Al Aweer and Ras Al Khor roads, Dubai Police said. General Khamis Mattar Al Muzaina, Dubai Police Chief, added: “The owners of the seized vehicles had organised races in a way that endangered the lives of other motorists and pedestrians. “Motorists were driving with no licence plates so patrol officers wouldn’t be able to identify the vehicles or owners. “The matter was handled delicately as police wanted to ensure the motorists would not act erratically, causing mayhem on the streets.” He added: “Officers assigned to the case were endangering their lives as many of the cars were driving without headlights and speeding. “The motorists repeatedly performed stunts and endangered our officers’ lives. “Police officers were monitoring the vehicles in attempts to identify them. The law prohibits drivers from making excessive noise and modifying their vehicles with lights and other after-market parts that could endanger others on the road.”
