Help­ing hand for fe­male en­trepreneurs

An event aim­ing to help fe­male en­trepreneurs in the UAE to get their ideas off the ground is un­der way.

The 1020 Ex­hi­bi­tion for en­trepreneurs started yes­ter­day at 1020 En­trepreneur­ship Cen­tre in Sharjah. It is sup­ported by Sharjah Busi­ness Woman Coun­cil and Sharjah En­trepreneur­ship Cen­tre, and will run un­til June 17.

The ex­hi­bi­tion is an in­te­grated busi­ness plat­form for the small and medium en­ter­prises in the UAE and wider Ara­bian re­gion.

It aims to share busi­ness suc­cess sto­ries and in­no­va­tive prac­tices to sup­port the Sharjah econ­omy. The or­gan­is­ers said it will also en­cour­age en­trepreneurs es­tab­lish their per­sonal brands.

Mariam Al Shamsi, Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of 1020 Ex­hi­bi­tion, said: “The ex­hi­bi­tion is look­ing for­ward to putting up the re­new­able ideas and busi­ness op­por­tu­ni­ties in front of the Emi­rati youth of en­trepreneurs.

“It also of­fers all the re­quired fa­cil­i­ties among the busi­ness en­vi­ron­ment and ac­cord­ing to their suit­able bud­gets, in or­der to pro­mote their prod­ucts and ser­vices.”

She said that the ex­hi­bi­tion is mainly tar­get­ing fe­male en­trepreneurs and wants to em­power women in medium and small en­ter­prises sec­tor.

More than 30 or­gan­i­sa­tions are tak­ing part, in­clud­ing lo­cal brands and fash­ion de­sign­ers.

Al Shamsi said par­tic­i­pants, for the first edi­tion of the ex­hi­bi­tion has been se­lected specif­i­cally. “For in­stance, we make sure that each par­tic­i­pant has his own brand and we don’t ac­cept any coun­ter­feit goods, in or­der to en­cour­age the con­cepts of in­no­va­tion and cre­ativ­ity,” she said.

Fa­cil­i­ties in­clude a busi­ness cen­tre for en­trepreneurs, spa cen­tre and a café.
