Chef denies murdering compatriot
A Kenyan chef has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his countryman by repeatedly pushing the victim’s head under water at a Jumeirah open beach. The Dubai Court of First Instance was told that the 30-year-old chef was at the beach on January 22 this year with the victim and two others, all of whom are from Kenya and worked at the same restaurant. The defendant and the victim went for a swim and, shortly after, the Kenyan chef returned alone. “One of his friends told me that they asked him about the deceased and he told them that he didn’t know and then left,” a 28-year-old Emirati policeman said in records. A medical report showed that drowning was the cause of death and that the victim was under the influence of alcohol too. Records showed there was a personal dispute between the two and that the accused threatened in the past to kill the victim. The trial was adjourned.
