A gang of 20 men beat a shop owner to death using knives and sticks, a court has heard. Three of the suspects appeared before Sharjah Criminal Court, while the other 17 did not show up. The suspects, 17 from Pakistan, two men from Oman, and another from an unspecified Arab country, allegedly murdered a shop owner and beat up another in a shop in Al Rolla Street, it is claimed. The incident was sparked when one suspect tried to steal a watch. The shop owner saw the man, challenged him and the pair fought. He gave the watch back but threatened the owner. Prosecutors said: “The Pakistani came back to the shop with the other men, all in their 20s, and beat to death the Indian shop owner, 35, using knives and sticks.” An Indian shop worker was severely injured. One of the suspect’s lawyers said: “The victim’s family has accepted blood money from the killers, avoiding the 20 suspects a potential death sentence.”
