Gyorgy Garics is determined to help Austria excel at Euro 2016 after his father passed away on the eve of the tournament. The defender’s father, Gyorgy Garics Sr, passed away on Thursday morning after a 10-month battle with cancer, but his son chose to stay with the rest of the Austria squad. Now he hopes to make his late father proud. “I asked him whether I should stay with him or go, but he thought that I should definitely go,” said Garics Jr. “Of course I want to respect his final wish. “I would like to give him a beautiful send-off. Papa would have loved to see me at the Euros, but he would have been the first to be angry if I left the tournament. “So I’m going to do everything I can to make him even prouder as football was his life.”
