Baggage handler jailed for pen theft from luggage
A worker at Dubai airport has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing a pen worth just Dhs5 from a passenger’s baggage. Dubai Court of First Instance was told the 30-year-old Ugandan baggage handler was spotted rummaging through bags that were about to be loaded on to a flight, but was unable to find any valuables. An Emirati police officer, 35, said he was called to the handling area after the incident was spotted in January. He said: “He confessed that he opened four bags and found nothing. He was searching the bags for passengers heading to Morocco.” 7DAYS reported in May how the man was charged with the theft and how he had denied the crime. He will be deported upon leaving jail.
