Crack­down on tankers in the cap­i­tal

More than 100 diesel and wa­ter tankers have been taken away from the streets of Abu Dhabi af­ter own­ers aban­doned them there for many weeks. Abu Dhabi City Mu­nic­i­pal­ity yes­ter­day said it has im­pounded 120 wa­ter and diesel tankers aban­doned in public park­ing and open yards at Baniyas to “bring hap­pi­ness to the com­mu­nity and nur­ture a safe and sound en­vi­ron­ment”. Two of the tanker own­ers were also fined Dhs3,000 each on the spot while 35 warn­ings were is­sued to oth­ers. The owner of a seized ve­hi­cle has to re­port to the mu­nic­i­pal­ity with doc­u­ments to prove his own­er­ship and then pay a fine of Dhs3,000 to get it re­leased. The mu­nic­i­pal­ity told 7DAYS it has is­sued more than 30 tick­ets to own­ers of aban­doned tankers over the past two years. is­mail@7days.ae
