New case of MERS in Abu Dhabi

Health Au­thor­ity Abu Dhabi says it is treat­ing a pa­tient for a new case of Coron­avirus (MERS-CoV). The or­gan­i­sa­tion, in co­or­di­na­tion with the Min­istry of Health, said it has taken all nec­es­sary pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sures set out by the World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion ( WHO). It gave no fur­ther de­tails as to the na­tion­al­ity or age of the pa­tient. On Sun­day, the WHO said Saudi Ara­bia had no­ti­fied of six new cases, in­clud­ing one death. The 59-year-old man died on June 12, six days af­ter his ad­mis­sion to hos­pi­tal. Au­thor­i­ties said he had fre­quent ex­po­sure to camels and con­sump­tion of raw milk. Five oth­ers re­main in hos­pi­tal, in­clud­ing a 49-year-old woman from Buri­dah city, who is in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion in the ICU. Since Septem­ber 2012, the WHO has been no­ti­fied of 1,733 con­firmed cases of MERS-CoV, and 628 deaths in 27 coun­tries.
