Hotel joins food donation campaign
The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai Hotel has been given the green light to take part in the Heafz Al Na’amah food donation programme. Dubai Municipality runs the year-round scheme in which excess food from banquets and buffets, whether from hotels, weddings or homes, is packaged and delivered to those less fortunate, such as families in need and labourers. The initiative can only be carried out by organisations approved by the municipality’s Food Control Department. JW Marriott Marquis Dubai said yesterday that it has passed all the requirements and has shared more than 3,900 portions of food. The news comes a day after 7DAYS reported how a diner at an iftar in Dubai was so shocked by the volume of food left behind by a family that he took a photo and shared it on online network Reddit, sparking a fresh debate about food waste.
