Ho­tel joins food do­na­tion cam­paign

The JW Mar­riott Mar­quis Dubai Ho­tel has been given the green light to take part in the Heafz Al Na’amah food do­na­tion pro­gramme. Dubai Mu­nic­i­pal­ity runs the year-round scheme in which ex­cess food from ban­quets and buf­fets, whether from ho­tels, wed­dings or homes, is pack­aged and de­liv­ered to those less for­tu­nate, such as fam­i­lies in need and labour­ers. The ini­tia­tive can only be car­ried out by or­gan­i­sa­tions ap­proved by the mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s Food Con­trol De­part­ment. JW Mar­riott Mar­quis Dubai said yes­ter­day that it has passed all the re­quire­ments and has shared more than 3,900 por­tions of food. The news comes a day af­ter 7DAYS re­ported how a diner at an if­tar in Dubai was so shocked by the vol­ume of food left be­hind by a fam­ily that he took a photo and shared it on on­line net­work Red­dit, spark­ing a fresh de­bate about food waste.
