TAKING THE PLUNGE WITH VIRTUAL REALITY

We have fun at the fair and explore the deep blue with HTC Vive

7 Days in Dubai - - FRONT PAGE -

HTC Vive held a sneak peek of their four virtual reality experiences in Dubai. I am no gamer and, frankly speaking, I don’t know how to work my way through the joysticks, but I was quite excited to see how virtual reality games work.

Using a set of VR goggles and two controllers, I experienced all four games:

AMUSEMENT PARK

This experience was great fun. It’s like being in an amusement park or rather a fair where you can do archery, knock off pins with various balls and bats, squirt paint into clowns’ mouths and plenty other games.

This one is specially created with the new NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 graphic card. This experience will be a huge hit with children.

SPACE PIRATES

This virtual reality game has zombies and the controllers in your hands serve very nicely as guns. Sensors map out the space on the floor where you can safely walk.

It’s a bit hard hitting for a non-gamer like me.

However, experienced gamers will enjoy this experience very much.

GOOGLE TILT BRUSH

This was my favourite experience. There are number of brushes to choose from to make your perfect masterpiece.

There are also some present designs, such as a waterfall, on which you can draw and paint.

The best part is when you walk within your artwork to fill in colour or add a stroke. This experience is beautiful for those who enjoy art and creativity.

DEEP BLU EXPERIENCE

You don’t need the controls in this experience. What you need is courage.

It’s like you are on a boat experiencing marine life, and while I am enjoying the scenery, a huge whale comes close to me and surrounds my entire view.

The whale is then staring at me with one eye. It’s a bit creepy and scary.

The experience is very real and though I know it’s virtual reality and that the whale can’t do anything, I took off the VR glasses.

HTC Vive has been launched globally, but a UAE date has not been confirmed yet.

It retails in the US for $799 (Dhs2,900). veathika@7days.ae Watch our video about HTC Vive on the 7DAYSUAE YouTube channel.
