‘Good’ real estate agent’s letter pleading with tenants results in lively debate

7 Days in Dubai - - LETTERS -

“And what about the agents who don’t turn up or do so an hour late? Even without the keys. Or to show you a different apartment.. Just interested in commission. No after service. Sometimes this so called respect goes both ways.”

“And what when customers see million different properties with million different agents without following any form of ethics? The day people realise what it is to work without a salary and only commission they’ll realise how tough it is.”

“No one asked you to work on no salary and commission only. That’s a choice you made for yourself.”

“‘Use and abuse’ meaning ‘paying your commission’ unlike in any other civilized country where the landlord pays the agent....”

“Granted property sales is a very difficult job and pressure is huge. But I’m afraid estate agents all over the world are viewed in the same light. I suggest changing professions, you have sales ability, God knows you have perseverance, you have patience, you are thick skinned, why don’t you sell something else? I personally don’t know how property sales/rental people keep going, it’s an incredibly difficult job.”

“Sadly the huge number of unethical or incompetent agents in the UAE have tainted all of you. I’m sure you are as you say, a professional and courteous agent, bear in mind that the attitudes of your customers are not due to your actions but rather from countless poor agents who overcharge, are unhelpful or even a hindrance. When moving into my flat I was informed I would have to do most of the work that the agent said they would handle, and then failed to respond to calls and emails requesting assistance. Sorry you are dealing with this, all I can say is keep being the exception. Be the change you want to see.”
