Father’s horror after witnessing McDonald’s crash
By Nawal Al Ramahi A father has spoken of his horror after witnessing a pick-up truck crashing into a McDonald’s restaurant in Ajman as he was dining with his family - killing his mother-in-law and seriously injuring his son.
On Sunday evening, the truck driven by a 23-yearold Emirati rammed into the McDonald’s at the Eppco petrol station in the Al Humaidiya area of Ajman, killing two people on the spot and injuring five others.
The driver also sustained serious injuries.
The heartbroken father, Nowfal Saidu, spoke to 7DAYS from his son’s bedside in hospital with tears in his eyes.
Saidu said: “My family visited the GMC hospital on Sunday afternoon.
“My wife is in the third month of pregnancy. We then went to McDonald’s to have dinner.
“I made an order and paid for it. My wife went with our son, Eshan, to the bathroom. Eshan came back and sat at a table next to the restaurant’s main door.”
The 30-year-old Indian expat said he heard a noise and looked behind to see a pick-up ram into the restaurant and injured people lying on the floor. Shocked, he searched for his family but found no one.
A few seconds later, he saw his son caught between the car and the pavement.
Saidu said: “I was shocked with my eyes full of tears. I thought he was already dead. I shouted at the crowd to help me rescue my son.
“I didn’t know what to do. I was totally shocked. Rescue teams arrived at the scene and transferred my son to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital.”
Police officials said the driver suffered an epileptic seizure causing him to lose control of the wheel of his Chevrolet Silverado.
As well as Saidu’s mother-in-law, a nine-yearold boy also died in the accident.
