It was announced this week that UAE res­i­dents ar­riv­ing at Dubai Air­port’s Ter­mi­nal 3 will now be able to pass through elec­tronic gates us­ing their Emi­rates ID. Dubai’s immigration de­part­ment, the Gen­eral Di­rec­torate of Res­i­dency and For­eign­ers Af­fairs (GDRFA), said the move would help to make ar­rivals a “hassle-free ex­pe­ri­ence”. Un­til now, res­i­dents have had to sign up for the ser­vice and pay a fee of about Dhs200 for an egate card. Now the ser­vice will be free and Emi­rates ID hold­ers are au­to­mat­i­cally signed up. Ma­jor Gen­eral Obaid Mo­hair bin Surour, Deputy Di­rec­tor of the GDRFA, said: “Ar­rivals through the Ter­mi­nal 3 are able to use their ID cards to en­ter more swiftly us­ing the e-gate sys­tem. Ben­e­fit­ting from the ser­vice are Emi­ratis and UAE res­i­dents.” There are 28 e-gates at the ar­rivals area in Ter­mi­nal 3. The ser­vice will be im­ple­mented at all ter­mi­nals in the near fu­ture.
