It was announced this week that UAE residents arriving at Dubai Airport’s Terminal 3 will now be able to pass through electronic gates using their Emirates ID. Dubai’s immigration department, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), said the move would help to make arrivals a “hassle-free experience”. Until now, residents have had to sign up for the service and pay a fee of about Dhs200 for an egate card. Now the service will be free and Emirates ID holders are automatically signed up. Major General Obaid Mohair bin Surour, Deputy Director of the GDRFA, said: “Arrivals through the Terminal 3 are able to use their ID cards to enter more swiftly using the e-gate system. Benefitting from the service are Emiratis and UAE residents.” There are 28 e-gates at the arrivals area in Terminal 3. The service will be implemented at all terminals in the near future.
