After an enforced break of 10 months, Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) has relaunched its glass collection campaign in partnership with recycling factory Random Global in Dubai. EEG began its glass recycling campaign in 2005 as a pilot project and has since collected 2,248,572kg of glass bottles from across the UAE for recycling. However, the campaign was suspended in August 2015 because the previous sorting factory was facing contamination issues raised as a result of mixing glass. Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of EEG, said: “We have always believed in sustainable environment practices and we are happy to sign this partnership with Random Global who share a common interest. “This agreement is a major step in encouraging environmentalfriendly practices within the UAE.” As part of the programme, EEG will accept different types of glass from all sectors within the UAE - such as corporate, hotels, academic institutions and families. The bottles will then be channelled to the factory for recycling.
