Af­ter an en­forced break of 10 months, Emi­rates En­vi­ron­men­tal Group (EEG) has re­launched its glass col­lec­tion cam­paign in part­ner­ship with re­cy­cling fac­tory Ran­dom Global in Dubai. EEG be­gan its glass re­cy­cling cam­paign in 2005 as a pi­lot project and has since col­lected 2,248,572kg of glass bot­tles from across the UAE for re­cy­cling. How­ever, the cam­paign was sus­pended in Au­gust 2015 be­cause the pre­vi­ous sort­ing fac­tory was fac­ing con­tam­i­na­tion is­sues raised as a re­sult of mix­ing glass. Habiba Al Marashi, Chair­per­son of EEG, said: “We have al­ways be­lieved in sus­tain­able en­vi­ron­ment practices and we are happy to sign this part­ner­ship with Ran­dom Global who share a com­mon in­ter­est. “This agree­ment is a ma­jor step in en­cour­ag­ing en­vi­ron­men­tal­friendly practices within the UAE.” As part of the pro­gramme, EEG will accept dif­fer­ent types of glass from all sec­tors within the UAE - such as cor­po­rate, ho­tels, aca­demic in­sti­tu­tions and fam­i­lies. The bot­tles will then be chan­nelled to the fac­tory for re­cy­cling.
