Husband and wife team and give their verdict on the Audi TTS

7 Days in Dubai - - DRIVEN -

ould the Audi TTS be the perfect car for a couple? On paper of course it could be. For him, it’s a great looking and reliable car. For her it’s a great looking and reliable car. Ok then…

The “his and her” testing the TTS were Mike Starling and his wife Lama.

They took the car around Dubai over the course of a weekend and to many different locations: the mall, grocery shopping, an airport run to Abu Dhabi and, of course, the rush hour into work. When collecting the car, Mike was impressed on first impressions, but he quickly realised something about the TTS - it’s definitely a girl’s car.

“As a 35-year-old male, driving a car like the TTS should have marked my entry into middle age,” said Mike, who usually drives a hired Yaris.

“It looks great, the interior and digital dashboard is sensational, but all in all there’s no ‘wow’ factor that other sports cars have. “When I turned on the radio, I wanted to hear some classic ‘guy’ anthems by bands like Oasis or The Killers. “It should have been obvious when the first song I heard on the car’s radio was Katy Perry. “There’s no doubt that the TTS is a great car, but would I buy it? “Probably not.” With a starting price of Dhs247,000, the car is geared towards professionals. And it’s definitely not geared towards a family because if someone of an average size and height is sat in the back it’s far too much of a squeeze and hardly any legroom. Lama, who usually drives a Pajero, added: “It does feel like a sports car, but for normal city driving, for that price, the novelty would wear off quite quickly.”
