Everyone should learn how to swim properly

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7DAYS... -

Once again I am reading a story about an unfortunate drowning accident on a Dubai beach. The Gulf waters are relatively calm and safe, so how is it that so many people lose their life in such a horrible way? Authorities have recently invested in lifeguard towers. This may give a sense of safety but with guards on single dawn to dusk duty, all day in the sun, I am not sure how alert and responsive they may be. Wouldn’t it make more sense to encourage and invest in teaching people to learn how to swim? This way they would not need rescuing? I don’t care that you don’t know how to swim. Because you are scared, you should not prevent your kids from learning. You owe it to them. Swimming is an essential life skill, full stop. Once they know how to swim not only kids are safer but they will gain access to the wonderful joy of swimming weight free and they will pass on the joy to their kids. Concerned Dubai
