Neighbourly night at the opera
Developer gives away opera tickets
Residents who live near the newly-opened Dubai Opera will be receiving free tickets to one of the musical shows for “being patient with the construction”.
The opera house took several years to build at its location in the Downtown area close to the Dubai Mall and had its grand opening on Wednesday evening.
The developer, Emaar, sent out a notice to tenants at the Standpoint residency that they will be receiving complimentary tickets for being patient.
The letter said: “As a gesture of appreciation for your patience throughout the construction of this prestigious project, we are delighted to offer you a pair of complimentary tickets to Opera without Words – an evening featuring the greatest overtures and interludes of Italian opera, performed by Fondazione Teatro Lirico Gluseppe Verdi di Trieste.”
According to the Dubai Opera website, prices for this specific show range from Dhs300 to Dhs5,000. One Filipino resident at Standpoint, Danelle Ruth, said: “It wasn’t really that noisy, probably only during the day but most of the tenants, I assume, would be out.
“I had no problem with the noise. It was more of the presence of the workers in the vicinity even during nighttime, so I was inconvenienced quite a few times when I tried to ride my bike or jog in the past year.
“The gesture was very thoughtful and such an unexpected surprise.”
Another resident, Jake, wrote on Facebook: “Start of the weekend! Very nice of Dubai Opera to give all Standpoint residents two free tickets to Wednesday night’s show!”
No one at Emaar was available for comment.
