Fined for overcrowding homes
Officials in Abu Dhabi have slapped fines on landlords who carried out unauthorised work in villas and apartments. Abu Dhabi Municipality said it fined 16 owners who partitioned homes or added structures to their properties without municipal approval. It also issued warnings to 19 other landlords. The violations were spotted during a series of inspections last month.
Fines of between Dhs20,000 and Dhs50,000 were imposed on each of the landlords. The municipality has carried out a number of campaigns to educate the public about the risks of partitions and illegal structural additions to villas and flats. Officials told landlords not to allow more than three people to live in one room and said families renting out part of their property are breaking the law.
