So, what will be in Jumeirah Central?
Developer promises to include affordable housing
A new mega development in the middle of Dubai will have more than 10,000 residential units, several of them that have been described as “affordable”.
The Jumeirah Central project was announced earlier this week by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who said the development will be a like a mini-city.
Developer Dubai Holding unveiled the master plan yesterday, which shows 11,000 residential units would be constructed in Jumeirah Central.
Morgan Parker, Chief Operating Officer at Jumeirah Central, said: “Jumeirah Central has eight different types of housing and several of those will be affordable.”
However, the exact price ranges of these ‘affordable’ homes were not immediately available.
The development will have 278 individual building projects, including 9.1 million sqft of retail space, 8 million sqft of office space, 7,200 hotel rooms, 40 new entertainment attractions, 37 plazas and 33 parks. There will be 25 points of access and eight modes of transit such as metro, tram, buses and aerial transportation systems, according to the plans.
Parker said: “Dubai Holding’s experience, together with extensive stakeholder consultation and research looking at the most innovative new cities across the world, will ensure we create high-value real estate to stimulate inbound, international institutional investment in the region, adding to the growth of Dubai’s non-oil economy.”
Parker added: “Dubai Holding has been working closely with government agencies and authorities to strive for innovation in urban planning that can improve the quality of life for Dubai residents and tourists alike.
“Working together, these entities have played a critical role in discussing infrastructure requirements, connectivity to current transportation networks, development of tourism and bringing new ideas to the overall master plan.
“I would like to thank them for their support and guidance in bringing this vision to life.”
