Letter: Why aren’t taxis allowed to take passengers back to different emirates?

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7 DAYS -

“Not just between emirates. One morning I had to get to the airport, came out of my apartment block and an airport taxi had just dropped a passenger, I wanted to take the taxi especially as I was going to the airport but the driver told me he wasn’t allowed. Go figure, airport taxi heading to the airport can’t take a paying passenger to the same airport he’s heading to.”

STEVE O’BRIEN

“It’s not only in the UAE, in other countries happen the same, that’s normal.”

SIDNEY BENZ

“I find it strange too for a cab riding all the way distance from Dubai to Abu Dhabi empty despite fuel prices.”

MUKIMBIRI KABANDA EDSON

“So it will maintain the availability balance in every emirate.” SYED MUIZZ ALI

“They are protecting each other’s emirates as independent. Oh by the way bus is not the same as the taxi. The bus does take passengers back to their homebase.”
