7 Days in Dubai - - SPECIAL REPORT -

Allowing firms to settle debts away from the criminal courts is expected to reduce the number of business owners fleeing the country. Last month, 7DAYS told how embassy staff are dealing with hundreds of employees left stranded because their bosses have fled, without paying their wages or cancelling their visas, meaning they could not look for new jobs. And on the financial front, Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, Chairman of the UAE Banks Federation, which had called for the new law, last year said ‘skips’ had led to debts of about Dhs5 billion.
