‘Does my employer have the right to tell me where I can and cannot sleep?’

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7DAYS -

I am a 33-year-old female cleaner working in Dubai. We signed a contract with our company followed by a letter of company’s rules and regulations, however we never signed anything that said people were not allowed to visit their families. I have family members in Dubai and on my day off I like to spend time with them. However, the company’s new rule says that if they check in your room and you are not inside for a night you will be FINED Dhs500. If you enter the gate after 10pm you will be fined Dhs200. As long as I am reporting on duty always on time and am doing my duties well does my employer have the right to decide where I am supposed to sleep and do they have the right to cut my small salary because I didn’t sleep in the camp? Mistreated cleaner Dubai is a huge city to be built around this, possibly the worst part of the SZR. Now, I’m not a master planner of roads and infrastructure but when you have entries onto a main highway and exits off within about 100m of each other it does seem to cause a certain amount of chaos, especially for Dubai’s thoughtful and patient drivers. 2020 and gone Dubai
