Nobody seems to care that able-bodied drivers are using disabled bays

7 Days in Dubai - - COMMUNITY -

In response to the letter ‘Drivers still flouting rules on disabled parking bays’ (Sept 5), my company has a large multistory car park, which staff may use at no cost. With 3,500 staff there are only three parking reserved spaces for people with disabilities. One of these spaces is occupied daily by an employee who drives a huge 4×4 pickup truck. When it’s time to go home, he heads to the exit faster than a jackrabbit to reach the car park – yet he parks in a disabled space. Because other staff see a large 4×4 parked in a clearly marked disabled space, they readily park on the remaining two parking spots. Oddly enough, the three disabled spaces are not at the access level to the office building to shorten the walking distance of a disabled person but are located 2 stories higher, so as to make them walk FURTHER. Neither facilities management nor security care. LT Dubai
