The Cricket for a Cause charity tournament held during Ramadan raised Dhs43,700 for Dubai Cares.

Created by 17-year-old Ashar Yahya, the second edition of the event saw a rise in participation, with 16 stellar teams taking to the field for a good cause. The tournament was held from between June 27 and July 3 and it was Ladybird Nursery who walked away with the winner’s trophy.

Last year Ashar launched his first Cricket for a Cause Ramadan tournament that featured eight teams and raised Dhs13,000 for Dubai Cares to help underprivileged children in developing countries. After the success of the inaugural event in 2015, Dubai College student Ashar said: “I decided to organise this charitable cricket league as it brings together my passion of cricket and entrepreneurship, and it is something I really do enjoy. “I received a lot of support from companies and individuals, who were very keen to participate in the league.”
