Jones earns IndyCar seat after IndyLights title win
Dubai-based driver Ed Jones has won a seat in next season’s IndyCar Championship after a second-placed finish in the final race of the IndyLights series saw him secure the title. The 21-year-old Briton held off the challenge of Santiago Urrutia to secure the points he needed to win the championship and earn a scholarship worth $1 million from Mazda. “It’s an incredible feeling right now,” said Jones. “It’s really a dream come true to know that I’ll be driving an Indy car next year. There’s been so much hard work and we really deserve this championship. I’m so happy to have this opportunity and to show what I’m made of.” Jones’ second place finish also saw his Jebel Ali Resorts and HotelsCarlin team claim the team championship title by a 29-point margin.
