Jones earns IndyCar seat af­ter IndyLights ti­tle win

Dubai-based driver Ed Jones has won a seat in next sea­son’s IndyCar Cham­pi­onship af­ter a sec­ond-placed fin­ish in the fi­nal race of the IndyLights se­ries saw him se­cure the ti­tle. The 21-year-old Bri­ton held off the chal­lenge of San­ti­ago Ur­ru­tia to se­cure the points he needed to win the cham­pi­onship and earn a schol­ar­ship worth $1 mil­lion from Mazda. “It’s an in­cred­i­ble feel­ing right now,” said Jones. “It’s re­ally a dream come true to know that I’ll be driv­ing an Indy car next year. There’s been so much hard work and we re­ally de­serve this cham­pi­onship. I’m so happy to have this op­por­tu­nity and to show what I’m made of.” Jones’ sec­ond place fin­ish also saw his Jebel Ali Re­sorts and Ho­tel­sCar­lin team claim the team cham­pi­onship ti­tle by a 29-point mar­gin.
