The Asian Football Confederation has ruled that UAE side Al Nasr have forfeited the first leg of their Asian Champions League quarterfinal against El Jaish of Qatar due to fielding an ineligible player. The AFC ruled that Brazilian-born and Indonesian-nationalised forward Wanderley was ineligible as his Indonesian passport was a forgery. “The Asian Football Confederation disciplinary committee has ordered the AFC Champions League quarterfinal first-leg match El Jaish vs Al Nasr... forfeited,” said an AFC statement. “The committee held, on the basis of information received from various state authorities, that the Indonesian passport submitted to register Wanderley was false.” Wanderley had scored two goals in Al-Nasr’s 3-0 victory, but the forfeit means that result has been annulled and El Jaish have been awarded a 3-0 win; the standard result in the case of a forfeit. The second leg takes place tomorrow in Dubai.
