The iPhone 7 has a faster processor, an updated home button and water and dust protection. Apple says the home button is now force sensitive.
It will provide “haptic” feedback – that “pushing back” feeling – when you press it, but the button itself doesn’t move. It’s similar to what Apple has done with a trackpad in a slimmer MacBook model last year.
The iPhone 7 also has stereo speakers for the first time, with twice the volume of iPhone 6S.
The phone’s battery life is improved, too. Apple estimates the new iPhones have one or two hours of additional battery life over last year’s models.
What about the camera?
Camera improvements include a new flash with four LEDs rather than two for greater brightness.
As with previous models, the flash will adjust its colour to match ambient light.
High-end photographers can get images in RAW
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus come in silver, gold and rose gold finishes as well as two all-new black finishes – a black finish that has an anodised matte appearance and a jet black finish that has a deep, high-gloss look. A re-engineered enclosure makes the iPhone water resistant and also offers protection against spills, splashes and dust.
What’s the screen like?
Apple says the new iPhone features the “brightest, most colourful” Retina HD display ever in an iPhone, with a wide colour gamut for “cinema-standard” colours and greater colour saturation.
Can I use it to make calls too?
Both phones include support for up to 25 LTE bands and LTE Advanced for three times faster data rates than iPhone 6 at up to 450Mbps.
How much does it cost?
Prices start at Dhs2,599, and it will be available from the Apple Store at Mall of the Emirates in Dubai from 8am on Saturday.
Telecoms operators Etisalat an du will also stock the phones.
