Western drivers need to practise what they learnt

7 Days in Dubai - - WELLBEING -

I have seen a number of letters about dangerous driving and inconsiderate parking, and this letter is a continuation of such a critically important topic. I would like to reference a group of people who are guests here from countries with very specific and very punitive driving laws, mainly Western expats. As a member of this group I learned to drive correctly, observing critical tenets of road safety including speed limits, lane discipline, signalling, adequate braking distance separation and most of all, paying attention to the road whilst driving. As Western expats we clearly should know better, yet daily I witness clear examples of how our driving has descended to the murky depth of the lowest common denominator of third world standards. Its only by example we lead and raise these standards – we have some of the finest road infrastructure in the world so please all let’s try and be an example of how driving correctly should be undertaken. One would never know, it may just rub-off on other motorists who daily endanger our lives here and eventually reduce accidents and fatalities! Anabel UAE
