Apple fans in 7 heaven
Fans queue all night at Apple Store
Some waited for 10 hours and slept on the mall floor, others flew in from Saudi Arabia – but they all came for one thing: Apple’s latest gadgets.
iPhone superfans queued in their hundreds outside the firm’s store in the Mall of the Emirates to get their hands on the new musthave mobile.
The iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch Series 2 was launched yesterday to much fanfare at Dubai’s Apple Store at 8am. But it was not a matter of arriving at 7.55am and walking into the store, many Apple fanatics spent the night waiting for the official launch. Apple’s new iPhone 7 made headlines after news broke that the company had removed the headphone jack in the new model and replaced with a ‘lightning’ connector instead. The Apple ‘AirPods’ - wireless headphones that sync across all Apple devices – were also released and it was also revealed the phone is water resistant.
‘ IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT’ First in the queue outside the Apple Store was 22-yearold Ahmed Alhajri, who flew in from Saudi Arabia and waited 10 hours inside the mall to get the new iPhone 7.
He said: “It was a long wait but it was worth it. When I found out that they were releasing the phone in the UAE, I knew I had to come.
“I didn’t know how many people would be waiting outside, so I came the night before and waited until morning. “Now that I have the phone, I feel happy. “I’m a huge Apple fan and I get very excited each time they release a new product.”
‘I WOULD HAVE WAITED FOR 48 HOURS’
Faisal Masih was another fanatic who spent the night inside the mall to buy the new phone.
The 30-year-old Pakistani restaurant supervisor bought three iPhone 7s and the new Apple Watch Series 2.
He said: “I was here over the night with my
friends. We just sat on a bench and talked and waited.
“I bought three iPhones; one is for me and two for my friends. The watch is for me. I would’ve waited for 48 hours if I had to. Everyone’s been talking about the phone, and I had to get it.” Some Apple fans pre-ordered the phone online to avoid the long wait.
‘I NEED A GOOD CAMERA’
Larissa Andrade, 23, an Indian recruitment officer in Dubai, had hers prebooked online before she arrived at the Apple store.
She said: “My husband had booked it online for me. He knows how much I love Apple.
“I’m really excited that I have the new iPhone. I really wanted it because of its camera quality. I’m a food blogger so I need a good camera.” The iPhone 7 sold out yesterday and is again on sale today, starting at 6am.
