Four people died and 16 others were injured in road accidents over the Eid Al Adha holiday, Sharjah Police have said. Major Khalid Al Kai, Director of the Traffic Media Department, said most of the accidents were caused by “changing lanes without signalling and speeding”. Officers said the operations room at Sharjah Police received a total of 27,225 emergency calls during the holiday period. Thomas Edelmann, Founder of Road SafetyUAE, said a poor awareness of the dangers of quickly changing lanes continues to lead to avoidable deaths. He said: “Motorists should always be aware of what’s happening on every side of their car and they need to understand they aren’t the only ones on the road. “There are other motorists, including mothers driving with their babies on the back seats, fathers dropping their children at school, among many others.”
