Man kicked to death
Two men are on trial for causing a man’s death when they kicked him in the head. The two Indian defendants, both carpenters, aged 40, denied the charge of assaulting the 44-year-old Indian victim and causing his subsequent death. They confessed to consuming alcohol without a licence and one of them told the judge that he couldn’t remember what happened because he was severely drunk. Prosecutors said that on February 12 this year, the three men were consuming alcohol together at a labour accommodation in Jebel Ali area, when a fight started between them over an alleged insult from the victim. A 30-year-old Nepalese worker said that he was walking with his friends to the accommodation when he saw the fight. “It was 11.30am, when I saw the two defendants assaulting the victim. He was on the floor and they were kicking him repeatedly in the head,” the witness said in records. “When we reached them, we smelt alcohol on all of them and the two attackers escaped and we called police and an ambulance.” Dubai Police managed to identify the location of the two defendants. “We arrested them within 24 hours and they were still drunk,” an Emirati policeman said in records. The case was adjourned.
