We need to tackle reckless parents on child car safety

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7DAYS -

When are the authorities going to do something about the overwhelming amount of parents refusing to secure their children safely in their cars? EVERY SINGLE DAY I see dozens of cars with children jumping around inside them, especially when I am doing the school run. I have spoken with parents, politely, about this issue and I either get ignored or they become aggressive. The roads in the UAE are dangerous and it only takes a small bump or hard braking for a small, unsecured child to be badly hurt or killed. A lot of people I have spoken to about this say it is a mix of cultural/ ignorance/stupidity and laziness. It’s common sense to want to protect the most precious thing in your life. I am filled with a mixture of sadness and anger at the refusal of these parents to protect their little ones and I wish the authorities would start a targeted campaign. Leaflet the schools, send police to the car parks during drop off and pick up time, speak to the parents, educate them etc etc... It’s time we started caring properly for our children.
