We can’t afford not to work and we need help at home - doesn’t make us lazy…

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7 DAYS... -

On the topic of hiring maids and how much they should be expected to do etc, I work 10 hours a day and, like most families we can’t live on one income in “our lazy generation” as you put it. If I had the luxury to stay at home I would and indeed I would clean, cook and do the school run. But I work and there is absolutely no way on earth I could do all these things alone and my husband neither as he works even more than I do. So before saying we are a lazy generation, we are a generation with a lot of uncertainty, having to change countries to escape financial crisis and risking being fired from one day to the next and working hard to make ends meet even though we are super-educated. My mom, who did not work, says it was already hard to look after a family, imagine how women feel today with having to work for less pay than men and putting in more hours whilst taking care of the majority of child raising and household work??!!! LAZY? I don’t think so. Come on UAE
