Suspects arrested after street attack
Dubai Police have arrested a gang of seven men suspected of attacking two brothers with swords during a street fight in a Dubai suburb.
An official at Rashidiya Police Station confirmed to 7DAYS that the seven Arab suspects are now in custody.
The gang are accused attacked the 20-year-old Emirati and his sibling after midnight on September 4.
It is claimed the victims were outside their home in Al Warqa at about 3am and preparing to pick up a friend from the airport when the attack took place.
Dubai Police identified some of the suspects and arrested them, before rounding up the whole gang.
“They are now under custody and will be referred to Dubai Public Prosecution to finish the investigation,” the official said.
One of the Emirati victims had claimed that he had no idea who the culprits were. His shoulder was hacked with a sword and he was also punched in the face repeatedly. He claimed that he was with two friends and his brother leaving a house when two cars pulled near them and the suspects attacked them with swords and knuckledusters. His two friends managed to escape unharmed. 7DAYS spoke the injured man, named Hamad, in hospital shortly after the assault. “We tried to speak with them but they didn’t listen,” he said at the time. “They cut my brother’s lips with a sharp tool and broke his jaw. They hit him on his back, which caused severe pain, now he can’t sit properly. “They slashed my shoulder with a sword and kept punching and kicking us. “My two friends managed to escape.”
