DHS 14M YACHT SINKS AFTER BLAZE
Owner loses Dhs14m vessel after fire in RAK

These dramatic pictures show the moment a blaze engulfed a Dhs14 million luxury yacht as it sat anchored at Al Hamra Marina in Ras Al Khaimah. The 35-metre Moon was completely destroyed after attempts to extinguish the fire failed.
The fire, which began in the upper deck, is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault, the owner told 7DAYS.
“The crew is fine, that’s the most important thing,” said the owner, who asked not to be identified.
RAK Civil Defence crews tried to bring the flames under control, before a tug boat towed the vessel out of the marina to prevent the fire spreading.
The blaze then burned completely through the vessel before it sank, as these pictures show.
“It has sunk to the bottom of the sea offshore and it is still there,” the owner said. “Nothing is left of the boat.”
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, the owner said, but he believes it may have been a short-circuit.
He added: “From what the crew and fire fighters say it was an electric short.”
The Moon was built in 2000 by a Turkish shipbuilder. The owner said he was relieved that the boat is insured. email@example.com
